Painting practice

I saw a couple of people do this exercise on blogs and I thought I'd try it out. Basically, you take a colouring book page and paint it in the style of an artist. I tried to do Sargeant. The finished product is not quite what I wanted, but I learned so much along the way. This turned out to be a lot more challenging than I thought. Helped me to appreciate the master a bit more :). I think I might try this again with another princess.

haha, everyone's doing one of these camtasia things. I was kinda curious to see what my workflow looked like too. Soooo...I jumped on the bandwagon and made one.There's a little part that's skipped where I somehow recorded over part of the video. I've posted a wip shot at the bottom. I'll finish this soon and hopefully not mess up on the rest of the recording. Sorry :(. still needs a few finishing touches, but I feel like I've hit artist's block with this one. It started out as a challenge for conceptart.org to design a warrior Alice. And it's great, except that I can't figure out where to put her apron. It just looks wrong :(. Guess I'll shelve this for now until I can figure out a solution. Might get around to doing the whole cast, or at the very least the White Rabbit. This was too fun =D

this is a little sneak peek of a project I'd like to work on with Mark Maia . It's a rough concept inspired by a beautiful poem of his. The part I illustrated was;

Since I have the time, I decided to get back to traditional this summer. Feels nice to be working with the old pencils and paints. Both pieces are on wood panels. Mixed media, but mostly graphite, copics and oils.

just thought I'd update. This is a WIP shot from a piece I started working on a while ago. I was reading this wonderful short story called 'The Wicker Husband'. It's about a very ugly girl who has a husband made to order out of wicker (cross-hatched basket work). It was just fantastic and the description of the ugly girl inspired me to start this piece. We were supposed to come up with concepts for a pet loss e-card. I had this idea for a zombie dog - this boy's dog comes back as a zombie, and he's really happy. But then the dog starts eating his friends. The tagline was supposed to be 'maybe they're better off dead'.

Needless to say, it didn't fly.

woo hoo ! I finally turned 19 ^_^, and in true college-student fashion, I spent the night with my head in the toilet. It was a good day.
Anywho, two picture posts today. The first one's something I'm working on right now - it's going to be colored digitally. I just need to figure out what to stick in the right hand corner of this thing, and I'm good to go >_<.
The second one's a collection of oekakis ranging from 15mins to 3 hours. I dislike most of them, but mreh - I learn a bit with each new one.

Okay, I have no life. I was re-submitting my portfolio at sheridan yesterday, when I realized I had nothing to do. So I thought I'd walk home from the campus. I should probably mention that I live about eleven miles from sheridan...and I was wearing heels. Anyway , stupid idea, but I was bored. I walked for about a hour and a half and I actually managed to make it to the AMC before I gave up. Walking from my place to sheridan's always been one of my goals and I came kinda close yesterday....kinda. Anyway, sometime this summer I'm actually going to do it. Only next time, I'll wear sneakers and actually carry water with me. Cork pumps just do not make good walking shoes. Anywho, posting up some of my bus-stop sketches. This thing's a composite of all my favorite sketches.

photoshop sketch I did a last night, experimenting with brushes. It was for one of Mess Studio's thematic contests. The theme for this one was Warrior Chef. Still not happy with the contrast in this piece, it needs a stronger light source, but that's alright. Just more for me to learn next time.

First post here- I was wondering what to put up, and decided on these. I had to take three busses home today, so I managed to get some sketching done. Did a quick photoshop of the lady with the purple purse, cause I smudged the sketch beyond recognition.
